Faceoff Strategy

The faceoff is all about the Might attribute and as such it can be good to have your highest might, non-monster player in the faceoff circle at the beginning of the test.

However, after the faceoff your high might players are likely to have very little in the way of skill. This can leave you unable to handle the ball and while it can be satisfying to bash your opponent it won't get the ball in your hands.

So, if your team is one that relies on skill to win, put a medium might, high dodge and skill player up front. Yes, the odds are against you winning the faceoff against their high might player, but they won't be able to do anything to the ball and you'll be in position to grab the ball. In Elfball one die difference on the opposed faceoff roll isn't that bad, and you can certainly benefit from the free point of momentum that winning the faceoff against a higher might opponent will grant you.

If your team relies on a smash-mouth style of play, get a defender up front and start hitting things. If you have bribed the ref feel free to live dangerously and shove a monster up front. Get them up close and hitting things as soon as possible.
